HOW DID YOU COME TO FIEGE?

I am a trained logistics specialist and have now been working in the industry for more than 15 years – from training to studies and various roles at different logistics companies, I have always been employed on the service provider side. In the last few years before I joined FIEGE, I was increasingly involved with projects in the context of digitalization. When I received the request from FIEGE for the position within IT, I hesitated at first. I was not sure whether I belonged in the IT world. However, I quickly realized that the music is now playing here in logistics in terms of innovations & optimizations. A modern IT organization that sees itself more as a proactive enabler of operations increasingly represents a competitive advantage. For me as an IT-logistics specialist, it therefore made sense to switch to an IT organization. On the other hand, it was interesting for Group IT to recruit me because extensive expertise and the ability to mediate between the “process world” and the “IT world” enable future-oriented collaboration at eye level with the business units (BUs). In the end, it was a “perfect match”, not least because of my experience in consulting, even though I am not an IT graduate.

WHAT EXACTLY DID YOU DO AT FIEGE AT THE BEGINNING AND WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY DOING?

We founded the “IT Integration and Business Consulting” (IBC) team at the beginning of 2020, where I was able to do pioneering work as the first business consultant. The IBC is a support team within Group IT that plays an interface role between IT and the BUs. Here, we take care of the topics of tender and project management as well as business consulting. With these core functionalities, we pursue the goal of supporting the entire customer lifecycle together with our BUs. For example, this involves the IT-side management of tenders and the implementation of new customers. A new addition is the focus on IT business consulting. The focus here is not only on internal consulting projects, but rather on supporting BUs in making the best possible use of existing and new IT systems, digitally optimizing processes and, above all, bringing innovations from the market and other industries into the company. Ultimately, we want to become more proactive as IT by independently identifying solutions and supporting FIEGE’s various BUs in ensuring sustainable customer success.

Since the beginning of 2022, I have moved internally within IT to the “Digitalization” area, where I am now responsible for the development of our digital platform “myFIEGE” as Digital Product Manager.

WHAT IS THE MYFIEGE PROJECT?

The project idea for myFIEGE arose from the approach of looking for innovative and new business models and at the same time focusing on digitization. With it, we would like to offer all interest groups around and within FIEGE – from employees to customers to suppliers & partners – a central digital contact point. On the platform, (new) customers can communicate with FIEGE & find information, gain direct insight into their business, get to know and use complementary services, and much more. For example, an employee can also find a central point of contact there to view payroll, submit a vacation request and many other helpful services. Similarly, our sales employees can digitally support a customer via myFIEGE, get in touch with them and exchange information. In addition, our customers and partners also have a central and digital place for their business relationship with us. Our long-term goal is to provide all users with a modern, digital and user-centric experience that supports and engages them in their collaboration with FIEGE.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE IT WORLD AT FIEGE?

The IT world at FIEGE is a group of professionals from a wide variety of fields who are well-versed in their field and have a great collegial bond among themselves. We have a large and constantly growing team of diverse experts, and at the same time we are increasingly challenged. In my opinion, IT is an absolute core functionality, can be a competitive advantage and is therefore a key to business success. Our Group IT is integrating better and better into FIEGE’s business, also thanks to increasing agilization. Initiatives such as myFIEGE are helping us to grow even closer together. Even in existing customer projects, you can tell that IT is an essential part of successful projects. This is due to the great work of our colleagues, who are very end-customer oriented and experienced in logistics. As IT, we are service providers and the BUs are our customers. So we look for the best solution for our customer at FIEGE. This fits in well with the family culture and hands-on mentality in the company.

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND FIEGE TO OTHERS?

I have never regretted joining FIEGE or Group IT. FIEGE is a great company that gives colleagues the freedom to go new ways and develop ideas. This is fun and provides motivation for new tasks. Sometimes you face some challenges with the team when it comes to implementing new innovative approaches, but the conviction and passion pay off. You have countless opportunities to bring about change and that’s why I enjoy my work so much!

WHY DOES FIEGE SUIT YOU?

Fiege suits me because I can contribute wonderfully to the organization despite my differentiated background. FIEGE is willing to think outside the box and break out of traditional frameworks. When looking for new colleagues, we do not only look at qualifications, but especially at the attitude and mindset of the person.
