Logistics service provider FIEGE has invested in the Aachen-based start-up Voltfang. Founded in 2020, the company is a leading provider of European battery storage solutions for industrial, commercial and grid-scale use. Voltfang raised a total of €15 million in its Series B financing round.

The need for powerful and green battery storage systems is growing rapidly in Europe. Industry and commerce in particular are looking for large-scale storage solutions to improve energy efficiency, increase self-consumption, and significantly reduce both energy costs and carbon emissions. “Expanding the energy infrastructure is urgently needed across Germany and Europe, especially as we work to build resilience against external energy dependencies. We must act now to create more grid flexibility using large-scale battery storage”, explains David Oudsandji, CEO and Co-Founder of Voltfang. Five years ago, the cleantech start-up from Aachen set itself the mission of developing storage systems from requalified electric vehicle batteries from the European automotive industry.

In June, Voltfang completed a Series B financing round worth €15 million. In addition to lead investor FORWARD.One, other investors include existing partners such as Interzero, PT1, Helen Ventures, Daphni, Aurum Impact (the family office of the Goldbeck family) as well as new partners such as Newberry Investments and FIEGE Group Ventures, one of the three venture divisions of the Greven-based family business. Oudsandji says: “This financing round directly responds to the enormous surge in orders we experienced in the first quarter. Doubling our company valuation in just six months is a strong signal of the market’s confidence in Voltfang’s technological relevance and growth potential.”

With this new capital, Voltfang aims to significantly scale its production capacities and deliver an additional 250 megawatt-hours of sustainable battery storage across Europe by the end of 2026. The company, which was founded at RWTH Aachen University will also continue developing its intelligent energy management system, Venma, which integrates AI capabilities. Voltfang’s systems use high-performance, requalified battery modules sourced from the European automotive industry – contributing to energy security and a more resilient energy infrastructure.

Jens Fiege, Co-CEO of the FIEGE Group, also emphasises the technological relevance: “Voltfang provides logistics companies with exactly what they need for the future: a technologically robust, environmentally sound, and economically scalable solution. With our investment, we’re not only providing capital – we’re also bringing our infrastructure and expertise to the table to help advance efficient energy storage in logistics.”
