Over 200 new jobs will be created
Unna, 5 February 2020. Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof and Fiege took over the hub with its 275,000 square metres of warehouse space and its headcount of 1,400 employees on 1 February. Until recently, a third party had been managing the warehouse for the department store. All employees were taken over under the business transfer agreement.
Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof and Fiege are modelling Unna into a logistics hub for hardware and are adapting volumes and process flows to accommodate a substantial increase in department store transactions and rise in e-tailing operations following the merger between Galeria Kaufhof and Karstadt. For this reason, 200 new employees will be engaged by the end of the year. The site in Unna will supply Galeria Karstadt Kaufhof branches predominantly with sports articles, stationery, toys and household appliances.
“The facility in Unna is growing. We will soon be handling even larger volumes here which is why we will continue to strengthen the team”, Jens Fiege, Chief Executive of Fiege, announced on the occasion of celebrating the business transfer. “Unna is the largest location in our supply chain network and we are thrilled to continue to prove our loyalty together with our employees on this exciting path towards a successful future.”
