FIEGE opens charging station for electric trucks in Oftringen in Switzerland
The logistics company FIEGE from Greven continues to drive the expansion of its charging infrastructure within its international network of locations. At its location in Oftringen in the Swiss Canton of Aargau, FIEGE launched a charging station with ten charge points for battery-powered trucks. In Switzerland alone, the growing fleet of electric vehicles by the contract logistics specialist already consists of eight vehicles.
Progressive decarbonisation: the FIEGE Group launched a charging station for electric trucks at its location in Oftringen, Switzerland. The charging station features ten charge points: four charge points with a capacity of up to 100kW for steady overnight charging plus six 500kW high-power chargers for super-fast charging. With the new charging station, the logistics company from Greven in Westphalia can charge its eight heavy electric trucks that navigate the roads in Switzerland for daily short-haul and long-haul traffic with even greater flexibility for its customers.
“As an international specialist for transportation and distribution solutions, we have been focusing on tomorrow’s mobility for quite some time now. The advancing electrification of our fleet of electric trucks plays a central role in this. Our new charging station in Oftringen establishes the requirements for even more sustainable transportation solutions and for expanding the radius and availability of our battery-powered trucks”, says Marcel Boccali, Managing Director and Head of Land Transports at FIEGE Switzerland.
FIEGE commissioned POWER+ Engineering AG with the technical implementation of the charging station, which came with a number of challenges. During an elaborate operation, the electrical engineering company from Zuzwil installed a substation transformer with a rating of 1,250 kilovolt-amperes of apparent power. Boccali explains: “There is an underground carpark beneath our charging station which is why we installed the cable above ground in a concrete duct – an innovative solution which called for specific know-how. Our special thanks go to the POWER+ Engineering team for their highly professional teamwork.”
FIEGE Switzerland’s eight electric trucks handle nation-wide traffic for different customers, including the packaging specialist DS Smith and the importer of food, Stutzer & Co. Throughout the entire organisation, the FIEGE Group already has 20 battery-powered heavy trucks as well as 20 fast charge points. A further ten fast charge points for electric trucks are currently under construction at different locations in Germany. At the same time, the Greven logistics company also relies on alternative fuels, such as bio-CNG, bio-LNG and HVO100, to further advance the decarbonisation of its fleet.
