Photovoltaics in Greven-Reckenfeld
At the Greven-Reckenfeld site, FIEGE has consistently further developed and significantly expanded its existing photovoltaic system. Today, approximately 7,000 PV modules are installed across a total roof area of 28,000 square meters, delivering a total output of around 3,000 kWp.
The system generates up to 2.4 GWh of green electricity annually—enough to cover the energy needs of around 700 households. A substantial share of the electricity produced is used directly within the logistics center, while surplus energy is fed into the public grid.
With the second expansion phase, the system’s capacity has nearly tripled, while also laying the foundation for a site-specific energy ecosystem. The next step involves implementing battery storage systems to reduce peak loads, further increase self-consumption, and unlock additional economic potential.
Photovoltaics in Zülpich
The multi-user center in Zülpich, located in the greater Cologne area, has consistently relied on solar energy since its completion in 2021. A self-consumption photovoltaic system with a capacity of 475 kWp was installed across approximately 5,000 square meters of roof space. It generates more than 400,000 kWh of electricity annually, equivalent to the energy demand of around 100 households. [Photovoltaik | Word]
The majority of the energy produced is used directly on site, while excess electricity is fed into the public grid. As a result, the location significantly reduces its CO₂ emissions and can even operate partially self-sufficiently during certain operational phases. [Photovoltaik | Word]
With the second construction phase, “Zülpich II,” the photovoltaic capacity has been expanded substantially. Today, a total of nearly 6 MWp is installed across the warehouse roofs—making it the largest photovoltaic system currently operated by FIEGE. This investment highlights a clear strategic ambition to deliver more than 10 MWp of photovoltaic capacity annually and to continuously advance the sustainability and economic efficiency of energy supply across all sites.
