FIEGE builds new logistics centre in Hamminkeln

FIEGE is building a new multi-user centre in Hamminkeln, expanding its network of locations in the Lower Rhine region. Sustainability in planning is of special importance to the family business based in Greven in Westphalia. The new logistics centre is scheduled to be completed in autumn of 2026.
Construction of the new logistics centre of the FIEGE Group in Hamminkeln is set to start in September. The ultra-modern property – scheduled for completion in autumn of 2026 – will feature just over 55,000 square metres dedicated to logistics for clients from a range of industries. The immediate proximity to the German A3 motorway means that the new location offers convenient transport accessibility. It integrates seamlessly with FIEGE’s already existing logistics network in the Lower Rhine region, with locations in Emmerich and Bocholt. During construction, a new park-and-ride point will be installed on Isselburger Strasse right next to the roughly 95,000 square-metres-large property.
Bernd Romanski, Mayor of the City of Hamminkeln says: “I am thrilled that FIEGE, a more than 150-year-old family business, has decided to expand its network of locations here in Hamminkeln. For FIEGE to settle here is a crucial incentive for our city. By creating new jobs and also, thanks to the sustainable design of the logistics centre, FIEGE’s contribution is not only valuable to the economic development of Hamminkeln but also to the transformation of our town’s energy systems. We are looking forward to a successful collaboration and welcome FIEGE warmly.”
Sustainability is a primary focus in the planning and development of the logistics centre, which is overseen by FIEGE Real Estate. The five-part, multi-user hall will feature mineral wool insulation and energy-efficient LED lights. Sustainable thermal pumps will take care of heating needs. The energy required for this will be generated in part by a photovoltaic array that covers the entire roof and provides a total capacity output of 6,500-kilowatt peak. Thoralf Schuster, who runs FIEGE Real Estate together with Kai Alfermann and Nikolaus von Blomberg in the position of Managing Director, says: “Using green electricity and generating it ourselves with the help of photovoltaic is a central pillar of our sustainability strategy. We pursue ambitious expansion goals for us to grow our logistics centres into small, sustainable solar power plants that produce more renewable energy than we consume for ourselves by 2030.”
An automated building control system and smart monitoring tools will optimise energy consumption at the new FIEGE logistics centre in Hamminkeln. The Greven-based family business is striving to achieve the EG-40 standard as well as a Gold certificate (Version 2023) by the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). Schuster explains: “FIEGE’s goal is to become a greenhouse-gas neutral company. The construction of sustainable and energy-efficient logistics properties forms a decisive contribution in this. Our special thanks go to the City of Hamminkeln and its Mayor, Bernd Romanski for affording us the opportunity to realise this construction project and expand our network of locations in the Lower Rhine region. We have been operating for clients in a range of industries from our locations in Bocholt and Emmerich for many years now and we are excited to grow even more in the region.”
