FIEGE and Dunlop celebrate topping out ceremony for new logistics centre in Hessisch Lichtenau
Construction of the new FIEGE logistics centre in Hessisch Lichtenau is progressing to plan. The logistics company from Greven in Westphalia is building a 52,000 square metres-large multi-user centre near Kassel. The key tenant is the tyres maker, Dunlop. The topping out ceremony for the ultra-modern warehouse took place on Tuesday and was attended by Hessisch Lichtenau’s Mayor, Dirk Oetzel.
Room to grow: the FIEGE Group celebrated the topping out ceremony for its new multi-user centre in Hessisch Lichtenau on Tuesday. The ultra-modern property – scheduled for completion in the autumn of this year – will provide just over 52,000 square metres dedicated to logistics, spread across five hall bays, plus offices and recreational areas. The project is being rolled out by Fiege Real Estate. The key tenant at the location will be Dunlop Tyre Europe GmbH, which continues to push for further growth in Europe.
Hessisch Lichtenau’s Mayor, Dirk Oetzel, said in his welcoming address: “It is impressive to see how fast the new FIEGE warehouse is growing. We extend our best wishes for continued success and are excited to welcome a tradition-steeped yet forward-thinking family business such as FIEGE, to Hessisch Lichtenau. For FIEGE to settle here is a great sign for our city. It demonstrates how attractive our location is for businesses.”

Jens Fiege, who runs the fifth-generation FIEGE Group as Co-CEO together with his cousin, Felix Fiege, explained: “To roll out a development project of this dimension in such a short period of time successfully calls for perfectly synchronised activities. Our gratitude goes on one hand to the City of Hessisch Lichtenau as well as our project partners, for their great support, and on the other, naturally, to our customer, Dunlop, who has been placing their trust in us for almost 20 years now. I am very pleased that we are adding a further important chapter to our shared success story with our new location in Hessisch Lichtenau.”
Stephan Stenger, Head of Supply Chain & Operations at Dunlop, added: “A project of this dimension only gets off the ground with the right partners. That is why I am especially thrilled for us to be working here in Hessisch Lichtenau once again with FIEGE. We have partnered with FIEGE not only at various locations in Europe, but we have also successfully completed many projects together, such as in Gengenbach and in Hungary. We have relied on this collaboration for almost 20 years now.”
While planning and developing the logistics centre which complies with EU taxonomy, FIEGE focuses especially on sustainability, which in turn forms the baseline for achieving a DNGB Gold certificate (Version 2023) from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). The new location will be fitted with charge points for electric trucks, mineral wool insulation and energy-efficient LED lights. The logistics centre will be heated with an air-to-air heat pump. The electrical power required for this comes largely from a rooftop photovoltaic array with an overall capacity of 3,000-kilowatt peak. Moreover, an automated building control system and smart monitoring tools will ensure the logistic centre’s optimal, resource-friendly energy consumption. In addition, a biodiversity concept has been designed specifically for this location.
