The contract logistics expert, FIEGE is realising a brownfield project in Worms. In May, FIEGE Real Estate will start with the demolition of an old logistics warehouse to make way for another cutting-edge property of roughly 36,000 square metres of logistics space right next to FIEGE’s existing multi-user centre. The new logistics centre is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.

The FIEGE Group is modernising and expanding its location on Mainzer Strasse in Worms. Right next to the existing logistics centre, the family business from Greven is developing a second multi-user centre. Demolition of the old warehouse, which FIEGE has been utilising to-date in addition to the logistics centre built in 2007, will commence in May. This new property will increase FIEGE’s overall capacities on Mainzer Strasse by around 10,000 square metres, to in total 91,000 square metres.

The new logistics centre is divided into four units and will be realised by FIEGE Real Estate in line with the current construction and environmental standards. Next to energy-saving LED lights and an air-to-air heat pump, the building will be fitted with a photovoltaic array that has a capacity of 3,680-kilowatt peak. The property thus meets the Gold certification (2023) of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB). “The spacious rooftops of our logistics centre are ideal to accommodate the installation of photovoltaic systems, allowing us to use the energy that we produce for ourselves while at the same time further lowering our emissions. By adding battery storage, we aim to grow our properties in the long run into small, sustainable power plants”, says Nikolaus von Blomberg, who oversees FIEGE Real Estate together with Kai Alfermann and Thoralf Schuster in the position of Managing Director.

Due to its location, FIEGE Worms benefits from good access to traffic infrastructures. Philipp Staiger, Director Operations of the FIEGE Rhine/Main Cluster, explains: “The dense motorway network, vital railway axes for rail cargo and the proximity to Mannheim port as well as Frankfurt Airport make Worms an ideal hub for national and international supply flows. The availability of multi-modal transport providers was one of the main reasons to invest in Worms again and to expand our location.” In addition to good accessibility, the base slab of the new multi-user centre will be sealed using a WGK 3-class film to protect the soil and groundwater, which in turn allows for the storage of hazardous materials. FIEGE expects the new building to be completed in Q4 of 2027
