Stephan Wittenbrink has been called to the Executive Board of the FIEGE Group and will succeed Peter Scherbel as Chief Operating Officer. In Wittenbrink, FIEGE opted for an in-house candidate to take over from Scherbel who, after 14 years on the Executive Board of FIEGE and a total of 35 years of service with the company, is leaving his senior position at his own request.

On 1 July 2026, Stephan Wittenbrink will take over the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the FIEGE Group from Peter Scherbel. As FIEGE’s new COO, Wittenbrink will oversee business operations at the 130+ locations around the world of the Greven logistics company. In his most recent position, the 47-year-old was the Managing Director of the Transport Germany, Tec & Customs unit and has been working in senior managerial positions for FIEGE for over 23 years. Over the past years, Wittenbrink successfully advanced the transport segment and prior to that, gained extensive experience in contract logistics in a range of sectors.

During the transition period set until 30 September 2026, Wittenbrink and Scherbel will jointly hold the position of COO. After this, Scherbel will pass the baton after 14 years on the Executive Board and a total of 35 years with FIEGE to his successor; however, he will maintain close ties with the company as a Chief Representative.

Jens Fiege, who has been running the fifth-generation, more than 150-year-old family business as Co-CEO with his cousin, Felix Fiege says: “We extend our deepest gratitude to Peter Scherbel. He has been involved decisively in shaping our family business since 1991 and played a key role in its further development with this entrepreneurial far-sightedness. More than three decades with a single company – of which 14 years on the Executive Board – is quite an achievement nowadays. We wish to express our heartfelt thanks for his extraordinary commitment and the trusting working relationship. We are extremely pleased that Peter will continue to assist us in an advisory capacity with his years of experience and expertise even after his departure from the Executive Board. Starting October, he will take on his new role as a Chief Representative albeit at a reduced scope.”

Felix Fiege explains: “In Stephan Wittenbrink we have found the ideal successor who will advance the role of COO with a distinct focus on operational excellence. His journey from student employee to Executive Board demonstrates the opportunities for advancement and development that our family business offers and also the potential of our FIEGE team.”

Peter Scherbel says: “35 years are a long time. I am extremely grateful for the trust that has been bestowed on me here at FIEGE throughout that period. I am proud of everything that we have achieved together. I am excited to be actively involved in shaping my successor in office. In Stephan Wittenbrink, an outstanding choice will be following in my place.”

And Stephan Wittenbrink says: “I am greatly looking forward to the new task ahead and thankful for the trust shown to me. My focal point is to anchor peak operational performance even more strongly within the organisation, to scale successful solutions and consequently, to strengthen our sustainable growth. The goal is to create specific, measurable added value for our customers in unison with our team and to do so every day.”
