The Dutch non-food discounter Action has opened the first distribution centre of its own in Italy. Located in Novara, the 57,000 square metre logistics centre will be operated by FIEGE to supply Action's more than 200 stores in Italy.

Action and FIEGE are expanding their long-standing partnership. The non-food discounter has opened its first permanent distribution centre in Novara (NO), Piemonte, to invest in the development of its supply chain in Italy. The international logistics service provider FIEGE will operate the property, which is certified according to the BREEAM sustainability standard. In the long term, the Greven-based family business will create up to 300 jobs at the distribution centre in order to supply an estimated 270 Action stores in Italy.

“We are very happy to open our first Action owned distribution centre in Novara, almost five years after introducing our first store in Italy. Customers have welcomed us warmly, and we are happy that we can bring the Action formula closer to them”, says Philippe Levisse, General Manager of Action in Italy. “Our success is built on our strong formula and the commitment and engagement of our teams, which we are very proud of.”

Jens Burger, Director of Supply Chain of Action, adds: “DC Novara offers us a great central location for the distribution of Action’s growing store network in Italy. I am also very proud this distribution centre continues to set an example in terms of sustainability.” For example, the gas-free distribution centre in Novara uses energy-efficient solutions such as solar panels for heating water, PV-panels for electricity generation, intelligent energy and water meters, LED lighting in the building and outside areas as well as charging points for electric cars. “Every aspect of the facility, from construction materials to installed equipment, has been sustainable designed for ecological and environmentally friendly operations”, Burger explains.

When searching for a suitable logistics service provider, FIEGE was the chosen partner. The two companies already work together successfully at other locations in Germany and Poland. Alberto Birolini, as Managing Director responsible for FIEGE's business in Italy and Turkey, says: “It is a source of pride for FIEGE that Action has trusted us to manage its logistics operations in Italy during its growth journey throughout the country. Both companies share values, such as the commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, our involvement in corporate social responsibility, and the priority we place on our people.”
