FIEGE’s new logistics centre in Hamminkeln is taking shape. The logistics company from Greven in Westphalia is increasing its capacities on the Lower Rhine with this new building, creating flexible growth options for customers operating in consumer goods. The topping out ceremony for the ultra-modern warehouse took place on Thursday and was attended by Hamminkeln’s Mayor, Robert Graaf.

FIEGE celebrated the topping out for a new multi-user centre in Hamminkeln in North-Rhine Westphalia on Thursday. With this new building, the more than 150-year-old family business, FIEGE is investing in the expansion of its network of locations on the Lower Rhine. Once completed, the property, which is located directly alongside the A3 motorway and split into five warehouse sections, will provide around 55,000 square metres of logistics space plus additional premises for administration, offices and communal rooms for customers from the consumer goods sector. The new logistics centre, which is being realised by FIEGE Real Estate, is expected to be completed by the end of 2027. Operations by the first customers are scheduled to launch in early 2027. The construction activities will also lead to a new Park+Ride (P+R) car park adjacent to the roughly 95,000 square metres-large land on Isselburger Strasse. Once construction is completed, the car park will be handed over to the city and the Land’s office.

Hamminkeln’s Mayor, Robert Graaf, emphasises the importance of the project for the region: “FIEGE’s new logistics centre in Hamminkeln is a crucial impetus for our city. It is impressive to see the dynamics at work here that are shaping the warehouse. The family business FIEGE has been a presence in our region for many years. I am very excited that FIEGE decided to invest long-term and sustainedly into the location of Hamminkeln.”

Jens Fiege, who has been running the fifth-generation family business as Co-CEO with his cousin, Felix Fiege, also underlines the strategic relevance of the new logistics centre: “For us as a logistics provider it is essential to be present right where it serves our customers best. The proximity to important logistics hubs such as Duisburg and Rotterdam as well as the outstanding access to the Ruhr district make Hamminkeln a perfect site. With this new building of ours, we are adding flexibility which allows us to meet our customers’ demands with an even greater focus. Our special thanks go to the city of Hamminkeln, for allowing us to grow here and further strengthen our network of locations.”

When developing logistics centres, FIEGE greatly values sustainability and future-centric infrastructure features such as electric mobility. Planned features include, for example, energy-efficient LED lights, fast charging points for electric trucks, modern heat pump technology as well as a large-scale PV array with a total capacity of 6,500 kilowatt peak. Accordingly, FIEGE is striving to achieve the EG 40 sustainability standard as well as a Gold certificate (Version 2023) from the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB) for the location in Hamminkeln.
