Data centre logistics for Fsas Technologies: 25 years of flexible partnership with FIEGE
When Fujitsu was founded in 1935, calculating machines were still closer to the abacus than to the PC. Today, the Japanese company is one of the world’s leading technology groups and supports its customers in their sustainable transformation through AI, computing, networks, data & security, and converging technologies. As part of this global strategy, Fsas Technologies GmbH – which emerged from Fujitsu’s platform business – focuses on the data centre product business and associated services. And for 25 years, the Fujitsu Group, Fsas Technologies and FIEGE have been demonstrating what flexible logistics means.

Konrad Zuse, John von Neumann, Alan Turing – these are just three of the many mathematicians and engineers who contributed to the invention of computers in the 1940s. At that time, the Japanese company Fuji Tsushinki Manufacturing was still focusing on telephone switching systems. Today, digital technologies – and with them the name Fujitsu – have become an integral part of our everyday lives. The IT group was once one of the world’s largest computer manufacturers and has since evolved into a global partner for sustainable transformation.
FIEGE has been on board as a logistics service provider for a quarter of a century. The collaboration with the Fujitsu Group has always been fluid, recalls Michael Suden, who has been jointly responsible for the client at FIEGE since the early days: “In 2000, at our branch in Apfelstädt near Erfurt, we began handling the batch assembly of IT equipment and accessories for the consumer sector, which were produced at the Fujitsu plant in Sömmerda, 30 kilometres away. The business – and with it the scope of our services – has continued to evolve steadily ever since.”
The route to the Volume Distribution Centre (VDC)
At that time, Fujitsu handled the global distribution of computers, laptops, workstations and servers via various warehouse sites. “In December 2000, we were given the opportunity to purchase a 155,000-square-metre plot of land in Worms, on which a small logistics facility already stood and which also offered sufficient space for an additional multi-user centre,” explains Suden. With the new building constructed by FIEGE Real Estate from 2004 onwards, the logistics space at the site gradually increased to over 82,000 square metres – and FIEGE was awarded the contract by Fujitsu to operate the Volume Distribution Centre (VDC).
At the VDC, FIEGE consolidated the operations that had previously been handled across the various rented and external warehouses. “Thanks to our multi-user structure, we were also able to offer Fujitsu the prospect of renting additional space at short notice if required, thereby ensuring maximum flexibility,” explains Suden. As batch consolidation was also relocated from Apfelstädt to the spacious new logistics centre in Worms, it was necessary to recruit many new staff members. Suden says: “At the time, we were able to persuade a number of skilled staff from Apfelstädt to move to Worms with the business. In addition, three Fujitsu employees supported us; they were permanently on site and available to help, so that we could quickly find our feet in the Fujitsu world.”
At peak times, FIEGE provided up to 30,000 square metres of logistics space for Fujitsu at the Volume Distribution Centre in Worms.
Complex value-added services
At peak times, covering areas of up to 30,000 square metres, FIEGE handled warehousing, consolidation and distribution for Fujitsu’s entire product range, in particular for what was then known as Client Computing Devices (CCD) and the data centre division. And as this was a global operation, shuttle services ran daily to Frankfurt Airport.
During the 2010s, FIEGE also began to take on an increasing number of value-added services for Fujitsu. In 2012, a staging centre was set up – a highly sensitive area in which PCs and laptops were ‘loaded’ with software. A few years later, the assembly of Primecenter racks was added to the scope of work, for which FIEGE built up the necessary expertise and trained technical staff in collaboration with Fujitsu.

One business replaces another – and the logistics adapt accordingly
The tech group recently withdrew from the Client Computing Devices division with regard to the European market in order to focus entirely on the data centre business. On 1 April 2025, the server and storage businesses were consolidated within Fsas Technologies under the umbrella of the Fujitsu Group.
For FIEGE, this strategic realignment also brought changes and new opportunities, as Suden explains: “Our collaboration with Fsas Technologies in the data centre sector at the Worms site will continue as before. In addition, since early 2025, we have been handling the spare parts business for PCs, laptops and servers.” As part of the strategic consolidation, the spare parts business, previously based in Sömmerda, was relocated to Worms and integrated into FIEGE, involving the relocation of around 14,000 stock locations. Suden explains: “Our approach as a service provider has remained the same over the past 25 years: we always deliver what provides the greatest added value for our customers – now for the Fujitsu Group and Fsas Technologies.”
