Sleeping bags and food donated to homeless people in Berlin

Fiege employees from Rangsdorf volunteer to help those in need

Rangsdorf, 6th January 2017. Employees from Fiege’s location in Rangsdorf handed sleeping bags and food for homeless people to the Bahnhofsmission – a facility often found at German railway stations that assists distressed travellers and homeless people – at Zoologische Garten in Berlin. Just before the turn of the year, Evi Tilger and Maurice Spitzer drove donations packed onto six euro pallets with a Fiege truck to the social organisation. Since early 2016, several employees working at the Rangsdorf logistics site which is dedicated to consumer goods, have been volunteering to support those in need in Berlin and Brandenburg.

“With some of the volunteers we created a supply chain concept to distribute the large donations. We provide the necessary storage space for these donations and organise the transportation”, says Evi Tilger, Project Manager at Fiege Logistik. “It feels great to know that our help really reaches those most in need.” The number of homeless people currently living in Berlin totals more than 6000, and the Bahnhofsmission at Zoologischer Garten gives out over 700 meals every day.

Fiege employees supported the facility at Zoologischer Garten and the accommodation for refugees in Berlin Moabit with donations in kind valued at over € 6000. “We used the money to buy sleeping bags and food for homeless people, and clothing, toys and baby products for the refugee accommodation in Berlin Moabit”, explains Tilger. Half of the money was provided by Fiege’s long-standing client, Nestlé Deutschland AG and handed over to the location in Rangsdorf by the chairwoman of the board, Béatrice Guillaume-Grabisch. The Joseph Fiege Foundation then doubled this amount.
